I‘m always looking for different fun family outings to keep my curious little nine year old entertained. She’s quite the adventurer and I’m glad to help her explore. So when we were invited to spend the day the Monmouth Park to experience America’s Best Racing, I thought it sounded like a fantastic idea! It had been years since I visited a race track and I thought it would be something the family would also enjoy.
Monmouth Park is a large racetrack and has a very relaxed environment. It’s a mixed crowd, too. You have your casual gamblers and the more upscale goers. You can really get away with any attire. From khakis and sneakers to sundresses and fancy hats. I prefer dressing up, of course. I think it makes it more fun.
The day we attended was Ladies Day. Lily Pulitzer had a stand along with a fashion show and ladies wore fancy hats. Liana loves hats and fun fashion pieces and I have to say she was a show stopper with her lil fancy hat. Guests approached us a few times to photograph her. She says felt like a little star 🙂
Despite the 95 degree weather, there was a nice breeze and we were able to sit outside to watch the races. I do suggest bringing items like umbrellas, sun block and sunglasses if you’re visiting in the summer. With kids, these things definitely come in handy. And keeping hydrated, of course.
The track is pretty calm and relaxed- that is until the races begin! You hear the crowd cheering in hopes that they win- it gets pretty intense. But I’m willing to bet tomorrow will be more intense with the American Pharaoh horse racing!
Even though we learned about placing bets, I think it’s a good idea to follow the sport for a bit before making any type of big bet. The fun part is that you can bet with as little as $2 to start so you don’t have much to lose.
And #2 wins!
After each race, the horses get cooled off and the ones to follow enter the paddock area. After that, they walk up to another area before the race track and guests are able to see them. We were able to pet the horses. Liana enjoyed this the most.
This guy wanted the spotlight! He got right into my camera and gave me a nice profile shot.
After learning a bit about how to bet on the horses, the guys started to place their bets. It was all in fun and good thing because we didn’t pick any winners!
We had a great day at the races. I would definitely recommend Monmouth Park as a fun family outing, date or even hanging out with friends. Special thanks to Dan Tordjman for the invitation.
(I’ll be posting a video soon so you guys can see what it’s like on film so be sure to check back!)
And I can never finish a post without sharing my outfit deets!
Until the next post,
xo
